My most recent project is developed from research on Inish Turbot where my father originated from before emigrating to the UK in the 1950s. Inish Turbot is a small Island off the coast of Connemara who's' population declined due to emigration. Following a disaster after three young inhabitants drowned, the Island was evacuated by the government in 1979. My research encompasses the heritage, history, folk law and traditions of Turbot. Documentation of the 1901 censes which describes the occupations and living conditions of the Islanders. The paintings are inspired by collective imagery and photographs.
